Beginning on a sad note, the Main Street business community lost a longtime member, Chris Powden. Chris and his wife, Beverly, own Powden's Jewelry here at 4 Main Street. Chris is remembered as a very kind gentleman and a wonderful craftsman. Our deepest sympathies go out to the Powden family.
Last week was Art on the Walls week for March. Coordinated by our Art Team, this project matches local artists with Goffstown business hosts three times/year (March, June & November). How it works: artists bring in some of their pieces to our office on Monday and Tuesday, businesses select the work they would like to display on Wednesday and Thursday, then finally on Friday, the Art Team goes to each business to swap out the "old" pieces for the newly selected ones. This is a mutually satisfying endeavor: artists are able to exhibit their work for much appreciated exposure and possible sales; businesses get a continuously changing boost to their dining rooms, waiting areas and showrooms... like a facelift of sorts. We welcome two new artists in this rotation: Pat Edsall and Donna Nelson. We also welcome a new business host: Goffstown Green Thumb Garden Center, and welcome back Tiffany's Cafe and Catering! Our artist response was great! Over fifty pieces were submitted! Look to our social media posts for a full list of artists, businesses, and where all the pieces are displayed! If interested in participating (as a business host or an artist) in June, please contact the Art Team at goffstownuncommonart@gmail.com.
Planning for our 18th Annual Invitational Golf Tournament is kicking into high gear. We already have our first foursome as well as ample volunteers to help us make the event a smooth success! A huge thank you to Robin and her posse, as well as everyone else who has signed up! You all rock! Registrations and sponsorship/donation opportunities will be mailed out in the near future. You may also get an early copy of that same tri-fold online and register online (for a processing charge) at: goffstownmainstreet.org/golf. Stay tuned for updates and other exciting news as the Tournament draws closer!
Looks like Main Street and the nearby area are gaining a few new businesses! Going into 20 Main Street will be: Sullivan Circus and Lottie-Pops (in the former A+ Bookkeeping space), and Sweet Love Bakery (moving into the former Blue Moose Cafe location). Also 444 Candles, a family run, all natural soy candle shop, is coming to Elm Street, next to TD Bank in early May! Stay tuned for that! In addition, A+ Bookkeeping/Richard Thomas CPA has moved to 39 Main Street (formerly Howe's Pharmacy). New arrivals over the past few months include: Ray Street Pizza on Main (in the former Vikster's locale), Withington Auctions (next to Deb Chabot State Farm, across from Putnam's Waterview Restaurant), and Zinnia & Birch (at 7 Main Street). Lots of new and exciting happenings are coming up in our business district!
Lastly, our Uncommon Art On the Common show is in its early planning stages, but the event already filled up by mid-March (a record). Stay tuned for updates on our Facebook group page: Uncommon Art on the Common and on goffstownmainstreet.org/uncommonart!
