As we all know Covid-19 affected businesses across our community in numerous ways. During 2020 the Goffstown Main Street Program (GMSP) was able to “keep the lights on” thanks, in part, to funds that were entrusted to the organization some years ago. These funds are used when times are lean and provide a necessary safety net for the organization. In 2020, the Design Grants awarded to village establishments were doubled form the historical $500 max award to a $1000 max award to help the village businesses improve their presence on Main Street. In addition, GMSP purchased personal protective equipment, mainly masks, that were made available to businesses when they ran out or had trouble procuring masks themselves.
In the Fall of 2020, as the public started to venture out again, we had a pumpkin hunt that gave out Main Street Money. The GMSP reimbursed any business that submitted Main Street Money they had excepted as payment. It was important that the program not ask for donations during this crisis, as such the fall goody basket raffle was filled with many things that the program purchased from businesses in the village.
GMSP hopes to continue some of these activities in the future. This Saturday starting at 8:00 am there will be a Main Street Money Easter Egg Hunt from the Library to Rotary Park. This is also the start of the program accepting the public’s e-mailed receipts for entry into the spring goody basket raffle. Every receipt you e-mail to info@goffstownmainstreet.org will be another entry into the goody basket raffle, basket contents are still being compiled.
Together we will make it through these tough times and the unknown challenges that may present themselves in the future….so remember….Shop Small and support your local villages businesses.
